About Us
Pūkeko Blue Ltd provides care and support to all people in our care. We encourage everyone to be as independent as possible by being active and contributing members of their community.
We provide a safe homely environment to assist with rehabilitation, recovery, achieve optimum wellness, stimulation, comfort and happiness while in our care.
The people in our care are active participants within the wider community at a level appropriate to the individual, some attend day programs provided by other NGO’s, such as Skillwise and Step Ahead. Some people in our care are gainfully employed in a part time capacity while others attend community exercise groups, go to the gym or swimming.
We take pride in providing 24/7 residential care with a team of on-call nurses who are always available to ensure the medical, mental and health needs of the people in our care are met. We strongly encourage and support families/Whānau to engage and provide input into the individualised care plan.
Pūkeko Blue Ltd encourages mental health recovery. We believe in a positive recovery process and support the people in our care to manage optimal mental health and are committed to delivering consistently high standards of care for all people in our care in an environment of respect, dignity, compassion and safety, and we strive to achieve the best outcomes for the people in our care.

Pūkeko Blue Ltd was established in 2001 and is owned and operated by Lyn O’Malley Hambling and Bruce Hambling.
Lyn is the Director with more than 30 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in Aged Care, General and Mental Health settings. Bruce is the Managing Director who has a background in Management.
Pūkeko Blue Ltd is Ministry of Health Certified to provide care for Mental Health, Intellectual and Physical Disabilities. We have contacts with Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled people/Ministry of Social Development, and ACC. Referrals are usually made through LifeLinks, ROG or a General Practitioner.
A funding package must be in place prior to entry to the service.
Due to the diversity of Residents within our service, we have several policies in place for the safety and health of everyone involved.
Currently Pūkeko Blue Ltd has 22 community residential houses in Christchurch. Our service is split with 12 houses for Residents with a Disability diagnosis and 10 houses for Residents with a Mental Health diagnosis.
All our community houses have a Support Lead who has achieved or are working towards a Level 4 Health & Wellbeing qualification or an Enrolled Nurse.
Staff working in a Pūkeko Blue Ltd house have a current First Aid Certificate and are encouraged to undertake further study though Careerforce.
Pūkeko Blue Ltd does not endorse alcohol or drugs on our premises.
All Residents and staff are supported by an On Call Nurse and are visited daily by one of the Nurses.
